Today's selection takes us to the heart Barolo, where it all started— a region that makes up Piedmont's complex oenological mosaic along with other very well-reputed wine regions home to some of the best red wines in northern Italy. And the Marchesi di Barolo wineries, in fact, represent the very history behind this wine that was made famous by Juliette Colbert who, in the early 1800s understood the great potential of the Nebbiolo grape— a rich no-frills grape variety that stood the test of time well when aged in wood barrels. And thus was born the "Re dei vini, il vino dei Re" (King of wines, the wine of Kings), his majesty, the great Barolo. We recommend this wine in its "Barolo della Tradizione" variety, which we've recently added to our catalogue. This wine is characterised by hints of berries, cinnamon and tobacco that pairs well with furred game. For lovers of Dolcetto d'Alba, a Piedmont classic, we suggest "Bossèt", with its hints of red berries and its smoothness and freshness that pairs well with delicate entrées and fresh cheeses. If, on the other hand, you prefer a nice Barbera d'Alba, why not try "Ruvei", with 15% Nebbiolo grapes, giving it more structure in the mouth and complexity in the nose?
