Tasting Notes

Deep ruby red colour. Characteristically vinous bouquet, with notes of red fruit and spicy nuances. The palate is fruity, nicely bodied with slight tertiary notes and evident acidity.

Pairing

Roagna’s Barbera d'Alba DOC is a wine that pairs well with the traditional local cuisine: hot Piedmontese starters, tasty rice and pasta dishes, main courses feature red and wine meats, mixed boiled meats. Try with bagna cauda - a traditional Piedmontese dip made with oil, garlic and anchovies, served hot and used for dipping a variety of raw and cooked vegetables.

Barbera d'Alba DOC 2013 - Roagna: Why we like it

We like it because it is an important, elegant, complex and well-structured Barbera. An uncommon and quite exclusive Barbera, if we consider that only a few thousand bottles a year are produced. The grapes come from the Pira vineyard in Castiglione Falletto, exposed southeast. In an area cultivated with Nebbiolo, there is a small parcel of land located uphill which is historically dedicated to Barbera, with old vines obtained from mass selections. The manual harvest usually takes place in the first half of October. When the grapes have been picked, the best bunches are selected, to ensure that the grapes are perfectly healthy. Fermentation takes place exclusively in wooden vats, using a pied de cuve of native yeasts, and continues for about ten days. The submerged cap maceration technique is then applied, for a period of at least two and a half months. The wine then ages in natural oak barrels for about five years.

This bottle comes from private collections, restaurants, wine shops, or rare wines merchants. Before being put on sale, it has been carefully checked by the Tannico Team. However, after so many years, we cannot guarantee that the wine is still perfectly preserved. Tannico guarantees that the conditions of the bottle correspond exactly to the description on the product page. The sale of this bottle is consequently subject to the “seen and approved” clause. This bottle cannot be returned under any circumstances.
