Tasting Notes

Ruby red with delicate shades of pomegranate, Chianti Classico Gran Selezione “Riserva Ducale Oro” di Ruffino offers an intriguing bouquet of violets, plum and evolved spicy notes of which it is possible to distinguish cocoa and cinnamon. On the palate it is extremely full-bodied and well-balanced, distinguished by smooth tannins and a strongly persistent finish.

Pairing

Throughout the meal, it pairs well with typical Tuscan cuisine, especially aged cheeses, grilled and roast meat.

Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG “Riserva Ducale Oro” 2011 - Ruffino: Why we like it

The most important wine produced by Ruffino dates from 1947 when it was produced for the first time to celebrate not only the twentieth anniversary of its already famous “Riserva Ducale” but also to commemorate a great vintage and to demonstrate the exceptional longevity of its Chianti Classico. Since then “Riserva Ducale Oro” is produced only in the years considered as exceptional, those capable of evolving gracefully not only for years but for decades. Starting in 2011, with an important and famous modification to the production process regulated by ministerial decree, it became Gran Selezione, one of the most important wines of the entire appellation. The grapes are selected and picked by hand in the Ruffino estates of Chianti Classico, Gretole, Castellina and Montemasso. It is a wine that is left to mature for 36 months, of which 12 months are spent in large oak casks. The wine then spends a further six months in the bottle before being placed on the market.
