We owe the first official Chianti recipe to Baron Ricasoli. It is from 1840 and includes a grape blend ranging from the Sangiovese to the Canaiolo, with a twist of Malvasia. Today, the area of the designation has expanded significantly and now includes 6 Tuscan provinces, but at the same time the grape blend has become more limited, often reduced only to the Sangiovese or to the assemblage with Merlot or Cabernet. So there will be plenty of tasting to do on this trip/tasting among the hills of the Chianti. There’s an invitation for you too, are you coming?
