Domaine de la Madone

The Domaine de La Madone has been in the hands of the same family, the Bererds, for over 5 centuries. The place is the small village of Le Perréon, a short distance from the Brouilly hills, in the beating heart of the Beaujolais area. Over the centuries the winery has grown, thanks to the hard work of different generations; in the last 25 years the Domaine has reached a vineyard extension of 28 hectares, with an average production that reaches 160,000 bottles. The vineyards are divided into 90 plots, with different characteristics and altitudes; the vines are aged 15 to 100 years - the average is 40 years - and mainly gamay and chardonnay are grown. A part of the cultivation, about 2.5 hectares, is now completely converted to organic, while the remainder is carried out following sustainable viticulture methods. The harvest, strictly manual, takes place by carrying out a first selection of the bunches directly in the vineyard, followed by a further selection in the cellar. Here yeasts are used to a limited extent, and the recent investments made by the property have led to a technologically advanced environment, in which modern techniques alternate and combine with ancestral traditions, with a mix that guarantees the projection of ancient knowledge into the future. Today the Bererds produce 3 labels, two of Beaujolais - the "Le Perrèon" and the "Jean Baptiste Bererd" - and a white from Burgundy. Burgundy, with its wines, has always represented an objective to aim for the Bererds, through creations that can be the identity of their terroir of origin and at the same time deep and pleasant to drink.
