Girlan

In 1923, the cooperation of about 20 winemakers gave birth to the Girlan winery, which takes its name from the town in South Tyrol; Girlan or Cornaiano, near Bolzano. Today -after slightly short of a century- those 23 winegrowers have become about 200 contributing members, with a total vineyard area that reaches 220 hectares, and has plots distributed in the best areas of the Bassa Atesina and Oltradige. Coordinated by Helmut Meraner, Oscar Lorandi and Helmut Strumpflohner, the company can count on vineyards between 250 and 550 meters above sea level, on mixed soil. Both native and international grapes are grown, but always in full respect of the environment and ecosystem. Pinot noir, schiava, merlot, lagrein and cabernet sauvignon, and also pinot bianco, pinot grigio, müller thurgau, gewürztraminer, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc arrive in the cellar to be processed and interpreted, always being true to the territory and the vintage. During the vinification, aging and refinement phase, under the management of the partner and oenologist, Gerhard Kofler, each production step is constantly and rigorously monitored. Since 2010 there are new premises and cutting-edge winemaking technologies, and yet the oldest winemaking traditions are never put aside. Above all, the quality of wine is impeccable, never affected by commercial trends, and showing an utmost respect for the terroir of origin. Wines such as the "448 slm", the Schiava "Gschleier" produced from centenary vineyards, the Pinot Noir Trattmann Mazon Riserva, the Cuvée Flora or the Pasithea: excellent labels, extraordinary from every point of view, certainly with a typical and classic taste, but at the same time of great personality.
