Nicola Gatta

Nicola Gatta produces Spumante Metodo Classico in the easternmost area of Franciacorta, near Brescia, Lombardy, on the limestone hills of Gussago; these lands, located 400 meters above sea level, compared to others in the area which are of morainic origin (therefore much younger), give the grapes and the wines a very peculiar and characteristic minerality. In the vineyard Nicola follows the principles of biodynamic agriculture and in the cellar he vinifies exclusively with spontaneous fermentations, without filtering and clarification, nor sulfur. The goal is to enhance a territory rich in diversity, by nature and origins, and to produce wines that fully represent it, uncompromisingly. Nicola has decided not to join the Franciacorta consortium, so as to free himself from the constraints of the appellation and leave to the territory the maximum expressiveness. Nicola's total property lies on 6 hectares, planted for about 60% with chardonnay and the rest with pinot noir; the age of the vines ranges from 25 to 35 years. The wines are all generous, intense, original, never predictable; the peculiarity is, undoubtedly, the fine bubbles, but also the inviting value for money. Among the sparklings by Nicola we find Blanc de Blancs, Rosé, Blanc de Noirs and, for all its products, the long stay on the lees is indicated in moons: 30, 40, 50, 60, up to 90 moons.
