Château l'Eglise-Clinet

The long history of Pomerol wine estate Château l'Eglise-Clinet has its roots in the early 1800s. Today it belongs to Denis Durantou, who has managed the company since 1983 and whose ancestor, Monsieur Mauleon-Rouchut had combined the parcels of Clos L'Eglise, formerly owned by the family, and Château Clinet, formerly property of the Constant family. He obtained a single vineyard which initially took the name of Clos L'Eglise Clinet, after which the current name.
The latter, as soon as he took over the reins of the company, worked to renovate all the premises and equipment of the cellar in order to optimize efficiency and, consequently, also the production quality.
Counting on a vineyard area of over 4 hectares and, above all, on vines aged 75 years, Château l'Eglise-Clinet grapes are concentrated, precious and genuine. They are then transformed into equally precious fine wines, among the stars of the AOC like Château Petrus and Château Lafleur and Château Le Pin. Each production step, from harvest to bottling, is constantly monitored: the vinification happens in steel tanks, and the ageing is carried out in oak barrels. With just under 10,000 bottles produced per year, from the 4.2 hectares – with a high prevalence of merlot, 90%, which in this area has its ideal habitat, and 10% cabernet franc – Château l'Eglise-Clinet produces some of the most important labels of the appellation. Denis Durantou's cellar wines are intense, pure and rich, and in the best vintages capable of competing head-on with all the most prestigious labels of the Pomerol area.
