Château Léoville Poyferré

Château Léoville Poyferré is located in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle in France, and it has very ancient origins: it was created in 1638, when Léoville was the largest property in the Médoc region. The estate, passed over the decades from hand to hand between different families, began to seriously establish itself as a producer of quality wines in 1840, until it was classified as 2ème Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Today, Château Léoville Poyferré is owned by the family Cuvelier, and the estate – which has been able to renew itself by combining respect for the history and tradition of the territory with the latest innovation and technology – stands out for being one of the most interesting companies in the Bordeaux terroir.
The vineyards extend over an area of about 80 hectares, within which we find the classic vines of this area, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot. The terroir is characterized by a clayey and gravelly substrate. In the vineyard, every operation is carried out with the utmost care, so as not to nullify what nature has granted during the course of the year. The cellar was renovated in 2010, and the vinification takes place parcel by parcel, to highlight the characteristics of each individual terroir. The malolactic fermentations take place in wood. The ageing period is also of great importance, which takes place in barriques, 75% new, for 18 months, at the end of which it is bottled.
There are three red wines that are made each year by Château Léoville Poyferré, an expression of Saint-Julien AOC. The "Château Moulin Riche" and the "Pavillon Léoville Poyferré" pave the way for the majestic Grand Cru Classé, top label, the perfect synthesis of the Cuvelier production philosophy, on which the main international critics see eye to eye, from Robert Parker to Wine Enthusiast.
