Château Haut-Brion

Located on the outskirts of Pessac, not far from the centre of Bordeaux, Château Haut-Brion has its origins in the mists of time. It’s been producing wine since 1525, the year in which it was built by Jean de Pontac, who had it built precisely for the wine business. The first cru in the history of Bordeaux wines, the Château-Haut Brion estate was unfortunately split up at the end of the 17th century, but fortunately it was reunited in 1836 thanks to the Parisian banker J. E. Larrieu. However, it’s with the arrival of Clarence Dillon that modern history begins. Legend has it that the American financier, in 1935, forced by bad weather to make a sudden stop in Haut-Brion, decided to buy the Château to live there permanently. The story instead tells of a property that was in a serious financial situation, and which was purchased by the Dillon family, who committed huge capital in the renewal of vineyards and cellar. Finally, the facts say that today Château-Haut Brion is one of the most spectacular wineries in the Graves district, and above all that it produces rich, typical and concentrated wines, of great quality, far from the wines of the Médoc, corpulent, fleshy and marked by wood, but always able to age in the bottle for 30 years or more.
