Famiglia Cotarella

The connection between the Cotarella family and the wine world originated in the 1960s, when Antonio and Domenico Cotarella, winemakers in Monterubiaglio, near Terni, built the first winery for their own production of wine. The brothers Renzo and Riccardo Cotarella, both oenologists who grew up in a land of long winemaking traditions, driven by the passion of their father Domenico, then founded Falesco in 1979, transforming what was a small family business into a successful wine company. Here, between Umbria and Lazio, wines of indisputable charm are created, characterized by a contemporary style and at the same time distinguished by a particular longevity. The company currently extends over a vineyard area that covers about 280 hectares, to which must be added another 90 hectares currently rented. In a hilly area characterized by soils of volcanic origin, both native varieties and international grapes are cultivated, and among the rows you’ll find plants of aleatico, trebbiano, malvasia, verdicchio, sangiovese and vermentino, but also of merlot, syrah, viognier and cabernet. The vines are raised in full respect of the environment and ecosystem, and in the cellar they’re processed using the most modern and advanced oenological tools, without ever distorting what the terroir and the vintage have come to express in the fruit. In 2016 Dominga, Marta and Enrica, daughters of Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella, officially took over the leadership of the company, and in 2017, to communicate the generational change, the entire brand architecture was redesigned, where the Cotarella family name now appears.
