Le Macchiole

Le Macchiole was founded in Bolgheri in 1983, when the place was still a holiday resort on the edge of time, among villages, olive trees, vineyards and a splendid sea. Among the first wineries that believed in the Bolgheri area, in the potential of mono-varietal wines, and in the organic viticulture - which in this area is particularly hard -, the company is today an international brand, led by Cinzia Merli. She founded the company with her husband Eugenio Campolmi, but he passed away prematurely. The first bottles were produced in 1987, but it was the 90s that proved decisive for the definition of the company. In that period, the owners acquired a clearer awareness of the terroir of Bolgheri, with the introduction of high-density plants and above all with the innovative and risky decision to produce mono-varietal wines. The approximately 24 hectares of property are arranged in a semicircle, as if to mimic an amphitheater, and are managed in an impeccable and meticulous manner. Viticulture, in fact, is the fixed point from which it all began, through important investments for research in the vineyard, with the aim of expressing this great territory in the wines produced at its best. In the vineyards there is space for syrah, cabernet franc and merlot, which find exaltation in the cellar through single-variety vinification. These grapes are the base for crafting incredible wines, such as "Scrio", "Paleo Rosso" and "Messorio", which have conquered enthusiasts and international critics. During the vinification and refinement phases, the greatest attention is paid, and the most meticulous care is reserved for each production process. This is how labels with extraordinary charm are born, which know how to challenge the passing of the years as few others can do. Original wines with a personality out of the ordinary, fragrant, rich and complex, able as few to enhance the characteristics of the "Bolgheri terroir", proving to be undisputed champions, season after season.
