Marques de Murrieta

The history of Marqués de Murrieta winery is closely linked to the birth of the Rioja wine region itself. It was Luciano Marqués de Murrieta who produced the first bottle of Rioja in 1852. And he was also the first to export it. Luciano learned winemaking techniques in Bordeaux, proving to be very forward-thinking in introducing the very French concept of "chateau" in Spain and in his estate Ygay. In the following hundred years and precisely in 1983 the Count of Creixell took over the reins of the winery, modernizing it with his own entrepreneurial flair, cultivating the legacy of the Marquis. Today the Creixell family has maintained that balance made up of tradition and innovation, managing to build a brand that is famous all over the world.
