Tasting Notes

One is immediately greeted by layered aromas of dark berries and plums, punctuated by hints of mint, violets and liquorice. The medium to full-bodied palate is soft and lively, deep, fleshy, and with fine tannins marked by the grip of youth.

Haut-Médoc AOC 2023 - Château Sociando-Mallet (cassetta di legno 6 bottiglie): Why we like it

Château Sociando-Mallet is undoubtedly a reference to look out for: located on a terroir considered on a par with that of Montrose or Latour, it is a château that does not fit into the classification but which punctually surprises the critics, who liken it in quality to a 3éme Grand Cru Classé. Since the 17th century, Sociando-Mallet has occupied the Butte de Baleyron, one of the most beautiful terroirs of ‘graves’, gravel, in the Médoc. Located in the commune of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, north of Pauillac, its vineyard dominates the Gironde estuary. Sociando-Mallet's soil consists of gravel from the Guntzian period, on a deep clay-limestone substratum. This allows the Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen in excellent conditions and the Merlot to acquire depth and complexity, perfectly regulating the water supply to the vines.
