BRIN
The Domaine de Brin is located near Castanet, within the Gaillac appellation. Here, the landscape is marked by rolling hills and small villages dotted among vineyards and woods.
Today, the Domaine, surrounded by oak woods, is owned by Damien Bonnet, who has the privilege of working the family's 12 hectares in an exceptional location, in the heart of the clay-limestone plateau of Gaillac, not far from Toulouse, in an enviable position.
Damien is convinced that the quality of wine depends on the health of the vineyard and its surrounding environment and therefore favours organic methods in the vineyard and natural winemaking in the cellar.
The varieties grown are the most typical of Gaillac, such as Duras, Braucol and Prunelart for red grapes, and Mauzac and Ondenc for white grapes.
In the cellar, the aim is to preserve the good practices implemented in the vineyard; spontaneous fermentation is therefore carried out using only indigenous yeasts and vinification takes place in tanks or wooden barrels, depending on the wine, but without the addition of sulphites, which are only added in very small doses at bottling.
While Damien's whites stand out for their finesse and minerality, the reds are rich, deep and pleasantly complex. This is demonstrated by the Giallac Rouge ‘Braucol’, which is characterised by hints of black fruits, floral notes and hints of spice. It is made from 35-year-old vines grown on clayey-calcareous soil, whose grapes are harvested manually when ripe, so as to achieve an excellent balance between consistency, sugar and acidity.
Ultimately, lovers of natural wines and the fascinating indigenous grape varieties of the Gaillac region cannot afford to miss the wines of the passionate and knowledgeable Damien.
