One region, two souls: the charm of dual identity
Our selection of red wines from Emilia Romagna reflects the extraordinary richness of a region with a dual wine-making soul. This borderland, where the influences of the Po Valley and the Apennines, the Mediterranean and the continent meet, is characterised by a clear stylistic division: on the one hand, Emilia, home to Lambrusco and sparkling wines that embody conviviality and lightness; on the other, Romagna, the kingdom of Sangiovese, which finds a unique and recognisable territorial expression here. This diversity is not only varietal but also pedoclimatic: from the Emilian floodplain, with its fertile and deep soils, to the Romagna hills with their calcareous-clayey and marly soils sloping down towards the Adriatic. Our collection showcases both sides of this generous region, carefully selecting both producers who keep local traditions alive and those who are bringing innovation and quality research to an area that has experienced a real wine renaissance in recent years. Each bottle tells the story not only of a grape variety or appellation, but also of a deep-rooted gastronomic culture and an approach to wine that combines respect for tradition with openness to the future.
From the hills of Romagna: Sangiovese and its territorial expressions
The Romagna side of the region is dominated by Sangiovese, which finds ideal soil and climate conditions here to express a distinctive character compared to its more famous Tuscan cousins. The Sangiovese wines from Romagna selected for our collection are distinguished by a more Mediterranean profile, with notes of ripe red fruits, aromatic herbs and a characteristic spiciness, supported by a more immediate structure and a less austere tannic texture. Our selection highlights the territorial differences that characterise this grape variety in the different sub-zones of the appellation: from the more vertical and mineral Sangiovese wines of Serra, to the more full-bodied and warm wines of Oriolo, to the elegant expressions of Bertinoro and Predappio. There is no shortage of interpretations of individual historic crus and the Reserves of the best producers, wines capable of surprising evolution and complexity. Alongside Sangiovese, our collection includes fascinating expressions of other native Romagna grape varieties, such as Centesimino (or Savignon Rosso), rediscovered in the Faenza area, which produces wines of surprising aromaticity with spicy and floral notes; and Cagnina, a local variety that produces wines with a characteristic sweet-bitter profile and notes of wild berries.
From the Emilian plain: the renaissance of Lambrusco and native rarities
The Emilian section of our collection celebrates the extraordinary diversity of Lambrusco, a wine universe that goes far beyond stereotypes. Here you will find the most authentic expressions of the different Lambruscos (Grasparossa, Salamino, Sorbara, Maestri, Marani, Montericco), each with its own distinctive characteristics: from the structure and power of Grasparossa di Castelvetro, to the elegance and finesse of Sorbara with its violet aromas and extraordinary acidity, to the versatility of Salamino. Our selection favours Lambruscos produced according to the ancestral method or refermented in the bottle, which represent the most authentic tradition of the territory, alongside more modern versions obtained by refermentation in autoclaves. In addition to Lambruscos, our collection explores the fascinating expressions of other native Emilian grape varieties such as Malbo Gentile, which produces structured and spicy wines; Termarina, with its rustic and genuine profile; and the rare Fogarina, which had almost disappeared and has now been revived by a few passionate producers. There is no shortage of interpretations of international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Barbera, which take on distinctive characteristics in this particular terroir.
Tradition and innovation: an evolving heritage
The red wines of Emilia Romagna are currently experiencing a moment of extraordinary vitality, where respect for centuries-old traditions is combined with a renewed focus on quality and sustainability. Our selection reflects this evolution through labels ranging from the most classic and traditional interpretations to the most contemporary and experimental expressions. Alongside wines that maintain a strong link with the local farming culture, we find more modern productions that explore new stylistic potentialities of native grape varieties. Particular attention is paid to producers who work according to organic and biodynamic principles, respecting biodiversity and territorial identity. Each bottle in our collection represents not only a wine, but a piece of the rich oenological history of this generous region, where wine has always been a central element of culture and conviviality. Whether you are looking for an important Sangiovese for special occasions, a sparkling Lambrusco to accompany the rich local cuisine, or rare local wines for off-the-beaten-track wine explorations, our selection of red wines from Emilia-Romagna offers a range of choices to satisfy every need and curiosity.
