The red heart of the Mediterranean: tradition and rebirth
Our selection of Apulian red wines represents the perfect balance between centuries-old tradition and qualitative rebirth, which has transformed this region into one of the most dynamic and interesting in the Italian wine scene. Overlooking two seas and kissed by the generous southern sun, Puglia has always been a land of powerful and generous red wines, where native grape varieties such as Primitivo, Negroamaro, Nero di Troia and Susumaniello find their maximum expression. In this elongated region, stretching over 400 kilometres from Gargano to Salento, profoundly different terroirs shape wines of surprising stylistic variety: from the red ferrous soils of Salento to the white soils of the Itria Valley, to the deep clays of Daunia. The Mediterranean climate, tempered by the constant presence of sea breezes, allows the grapes to ripen optimally, ensuring concentration and richness without sacrificing freshness and aromatic complexity. Our collection recounts the extraordinary journey of a region that has been able to transform its traditional vocation for blending wines into a winemaking excellence, capable of interpreting a thousand-year-old wine-growing heritage with modern sensitivity.
Primitivo and Negroamaro: the two faces of Apulian red wine
At the heart of our selection are the two grape varieties that symbolise Apulian winemaking: Primitivo, with its sunny character, notes of ripe black fruit, Mediterranean spices and generous structure, which finds its maximum expression in the areas of Manduria and Gioia del Colle; and Negroamaro, more austere and elegant, with its intriguing balance of red fruits, balsamic notes, hints of Mediterranean scrub and a characteristic bitter note on the finish, the undisputed star of Salento. Our collection highlights the territorial differences that characterise these grape varieties in different areas of the region, offering both more traditional interpretations that enhance power and warmth, and more modern versions that focus on elegance, freshness and drinkability. There is no shortage of great Primitivo di Manduria crus, capable of surprising longevity, and refined expressions of Negroamaro in purity or in traditional blends such as Salice Salentino, as well as fascinating interpretations of Nero di Troia from Daunia, a grape variety with a noble tannic texture and complex aromatic profile that is enjoying a well-deserved rediscovery.
From tradition to innovation: an evolving oenology
Apulia's wine industry is currently experiencing a period of extraordinary ferment, where centuries-old tradition and innovation merge in a fascinating balance. Our selection reflects this evolution through labels ranging from the most classic interpretations, which maintain a link with rural tradition, to the most contemporary expressions that explore new stylistic potentialities of native grape varieties. Alongside the powerful, structured reds that have made the region famous, we now find wines of surprising freshness and elegance, the result of more careful viticulture and less extractive vinification. Our collection showcases both the great historic wineries that have led the region's qualitative renaissance and the small artisan producers who work passionately on micro-plots, often according to organic and biodynamic principles. Each bottle tells a different story about this generous land: from the more immediate and fruity versions perfect for everyday drinking, to wines of extraordinary complexity suitable for ageing, to rare expressions of almost forgotten grape varieties such as Susumaniello, Ottavianello and Malvasia Nera, which some enlightened winemakers are reviving. Today, Apulian reds are not only the authentic expression of a gifted territory, but also wines with a surprising quality-price ratio, capable of satisfying both enthusiasts in search of power and extract, and the most refined palates that prefer elegance and complexity.
