CERASUOLO D'ABRUZZO

Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo: the rosé with the soul of a red wine

Our selection of Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo represents the excellence of a designation that has revolutionized the very concept of rosé wine in Italy. Made mainly from Montepulciano d'Abruzzo grapes (minimum 85%), Cerasuolo immediately stands out for its intense, brilliant color reminiscent of ripe cherries—hence the name “cerasuolo” . Unlike many other rosés, these wines have a more sustained structure and a decisive character that places them in a category of their own, halfway between the typical freshness of rosés and the complexity of young red wines. This peculiarity makes Cerasuolo an extremely versatile wine, capable of accompanying traditional Abruzzo dishes and more with ease.

A territory that shapes character

Abruzzo, with its stark contrasts between mountains and sea, offers ideal conditions for growing Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, a grape variety that expresses its full potential in the rosé version. The temperate climate, influenced by the presence of the Adriatic Sea and protected by the Apennine Mountains, together with the mineral-rich soils, contributes to giving Cerasuolo a unique and distinctive organoleptic profile. On the nose, these wines are distinguished by intense aromas of fresh red fruit—black cherries, cherries, and strawberries—accompanied by delicate floral notes and a slight spiciness. On the palate, they impress with their structure and body, supported by a lively acidity and a pleasant sapidity that enhance their freshness and prolong their persistence.

A rosé for all seasons

The unique structure of Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo makes it an extraordinarily versatile wine, capable of going beyond the traditional seasonality of rosés. Its taste and personality allow it to accompany not only summer dishes, but to be enjoyed throughout the year. Ideal pairings range from typical Abruzzo cured meats such as ventricina to fresh cheeses, from savory first courses such as maccheroni alla chitarra with lamb ragù to stewed or grilled fish main courses. It is particularly good with brodetto alla vastese, a dish that symbolizes Abruzzo's seafood cuisine. Served at a temperature of 10-12°C, slightly higher than other rosés, Cerasuolo reveals all its aromatic complexity and territorial character, confirming its status as one of the most interesting and distinctive rosés on the Italian wine scene.
