DOMAINE DE MONTILLE

Maison de Montille is what the French call a ‘maison de negoce’, owned by the family of Etienne and Alix de Montille, whose name is inextricably linked to Domaine du Château de Puligny-Montrachet.

The philosophy of the Maison de Negoce de Montille is to purchase grapes from winegrowers with prestigious parcels in the various appellations of Burgundy to create white wines of the highest quality, carefully vinified in the cellars of the Domaine de Puligny-Montrachet according to the classic principles that characterise the de Montille family: careful manual harvesting, gentle pressing using pneumatic presses, fermentation in wooden vats of various sizes, ageing in Allier oak barrels with a small percentage of new wood, usually around 10%, followed by further ageing in steel for 4 to 6 months, typically, to maintain the excellent balance of wines that aim to be elegant and faithful to the terroir.

The choice of land also takes into account agricultural methods, which are always organic, if not biodynamic.

Maison de Montille is still very much part of the family business and, for this reason, does not limit itself to purchasing grapes but also takes care of the harvest in order to guarantee the quality associated with its name.

Maison de Montille now produces 75-80,000 bottles with labels covering the whole of Burgundy, including those appellations that tend to be overlooked, such as Chablis, Puligny-Montrachet and Mersault, but also Saint Roman, Rully, Saint-Aubin, Poully Fuissé, Montagny, Pernand-Vergelesses, Auxey Duresses and others.

Alix de Montille's attention to wine and the land comes not only from her father, who had extensive experience with red wines, but also from being the wife of Jean Marc Roulot, rightly considered one of the greatest producers of white wines in Burgundy and, therefore, in the world.
