A mosaic of territories and styles
Lombardy boasts an extraordinarily diverse wine heritage, reflecting the variety of its landscapes: from the Prealps to the lakes, from the plains to the morainic hills. This geographical complexity translates into a multifaceted wine offering, ranging from prestigious classic method sparkling wines to structured reds, from fresh and mineral whites to meditation wines. Although less celebrated than other Italian wine regions, Lombardy offers absolute excellence in every category, the result of a centuries-old tradition that has been skillfully renewed.
Lombardy sparkling wines: recognized excellence
Franciacorta is the pride of regional production, with its classic method sparkling wines that have achieved international fame. Produced mainly from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, these DOCG wines are distinguished by their finesse, complexity, and unparalleled elegance.
Alongside this prestigious appellation, other areas such as Oltrepò Pavese with its Metodo Classico and Lugana with its sparkling wines are gaining increasing recognition, confirming Lombardy's vocation for sparkling wines of excellence.
From the reds of Oltrepò to the whites of Garda
In addition to sparkling wines, Oltrepò Pavese is the land of choice for characterful reds such as Bonarda, Pinot Noir, and Buttafuoco, wines that express the territory through their structure and complexity. The Garda area, on the other hand, offers whites of great elegance, with Lugana at the forefront, a wine made from Turbiana (a local biotype of Trebbiano) that surprises with its minerality and longevity. No less significant are the wines produced in Valtellina, where Nebbiolo (locally called Chiavennasca) expresses itself in wines of extraordinary finesse and elegance, such as Sforzato, a dry passito wine that is unique in Italy. The picture is completed by the wines of San Colombano, the only DOC in the province of Milan, and the wines of Valcalepio, testifying to a wealth of wine production that perfectly reflects the cultural and economic complexity of this region.
