ORGANIC WINES

What are organic wines?

Organic wines are produced from grapes grown using organic farming methods, without the use of pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or GMOs

The vines are cultivated naturally, using techniques such as crop rotation, organic fertilization, and biological control of diseases and pests. When it comes to winemaking, organic producers try to use indigenous rather than industrial yeasts as much as possible and, if possible, to avoid using additives.

The key question for organic wines is: are they sulfite-free?

There is no definitive answer, as a wine can be organic even if a minimal amount of sulfites is added. By law, a wine is considered organic if it has less than 100 mg/l of sulfites for reds and 150 mg/l for whites and rosés.

The certification of organic wines is issued by control bodies authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies.

What are the best organic wines?

In Italy, there are numerous organic farms that produce high-quality wines. Here at Tannico, we have selected those that we consider to be the most interesting and innovative on the Italian and international wine scene.

Among the Italian regions that stand out for their organic wines, Tuscany is certainly one, but Piedmont and Lombardy are also noteworthy. Further south, Sicily offers excellent organic wines, especially if you choose the Etna DOC, both white and red.
