Voerzio

In 1986 one of the most important wineries of the entire appellation was founded in La Morra, a small hamlet in the heart of the Langhe: Roberto Voerzio’s journey starts here. Two hectares, initially, which over the years have expanded towards some highly prestigious vineyards, from Fossati to Sarmassa and Case Nere, from Cerequio to the legendary Brunate, La Serra and Rocche dell'Annunziata. The excellence of the production is due to an obsessive care in the vineyard, characterized by yields among the lowest in Barolo. However, it’s difficult to summarize in a few lines the impact that Roberto Voerzio's work has had on the territory in these three decades. A path made of courage and often anti-mainstream choices, made with the goal to produce wines capable of representing the territory itself. It’s therefore no coincidence that today these wines are universally recognized as some of the greatest Barolos in existence. Cult wines that should not be missing in the cellar of every true enthusiast. In the vineyard, the work starts from the fertilizations, which after each harvest are carried out only when needed, and using exclusively cow manure and humus. Afterwards, the winter pruning as well as the thinning are carried out wisely, in order to keep the yields low and the quality of the bunches high. In the cellar, the grapes are processed without ever resorting to any substance that could alter the natural characteristics of the fruit. Fermentation lasts 10 to 30 days, and takes place only by indigenous yeasts, while the ageing techniques vary according to the product to be obtained. In any case, no wine is ever filtered before bottling. Barolo Fossati Case Nere, Barolo Sarmassa, Barolo Cerequio, Barolo Brunate, Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata Torriglione and Barolo La Serra, and then Barbera, Dolcetto d'Alba and Nebbiolo: any "Voerzio" label faithfully represents the wonderful personality of the Langhe of Piedmont, one of the territories of the Peninsula that offers the greatest oenological satisfaction.
