ROAGNA

The Roagna Winery is located in Barbaresco, in the heart of the Langhe region, and produces wines that are the pure and authentic expression of the territory.

To achieve this, it has chosen to work with old vines with very deep root systems capable of producing grapes with great aromatic concentration. The soils are of marine sedimentary origin, with layers of calcareous clay alternating with grey-blue marl and sand. The authenticity of each individual and different expression derives from minimal differences in the subsoil. The vineyards are not fertilised, no herbicides or pesticides are used and the soil is completely grassed, so that biodiversity is stimulated and the root systems are encouraged to grow deep. The vines in the vineyards come from mother vines in the area, so as to maintain a heterogeneous population of plants.

In 2012, an experiment began with seed vines, obtained by sowing seeds from the oldest vines to produce new daughter plants and preserve or even increase the biodiversity of the vineyard. In the cellar, as in the vineyards, the rules are strict and rigorous, followed to perfection, constantly and scrupulously: for fermentation, pied de cuve with indigenous yeasts are used and maceration is very long, with the cap submerged, to transfer all the precious elements of the grapes to the wine. The same philosophy is pursued during the ageing and refinement phases: the controls are meticulous, and the ultimate goal is always to enhance what the season and the territory have managed to express in the grapes.

The result is simply extraordinary wines, including some of the best labels in the whole of Piedmont. From Dolcetto to Barbera, Barolo and Barbaresco - the latter coming from some of the most prestigious crus, such as Pajè and Asili - to Barolo Chinato and Grappa: labels that are practically legendary.
